Our weekly roundup of exciting new One Series pedal presets created by the Neuro Community
|
Welcome to the latest edition of This Week in Neuro - our bi-weekly roundup of cool new published presets created for Source Audio pedals by the Neuro Community. Keep the awesome presets coming and don't forget to record and embed sound clips in the preset listing (Watch the video on this page for instructions on preset creation, publishing, and sound clip embedding) - we love hearing your published presets in action. This week we've got some crazy fuzz sounds for the Ultrawave, some nice synth-pop bass sounds for the C4 Synth, some sprawling ambience from the Collider Delay+Reverb and much more. Click the link below to hear the presets.
"Cryptophaser Boss Fuzz" - Ultrawave Multiband Processor - Created by Flying_Vipers
No, you're not being misled by some sort of Hollywood movie trickery in this video clip - your looking at the brothers Beaudette (twin brothers! - John & Marc), also known as Cryptophaser. Cryptophaser are a killer instrumental duo from right here in the lovely state of Massachusetts (the place Source Audio calls home). This heavy duty fuzz preset for the Ultrawave was created by guitarist/bassist John Beaudette (user name Flying_Vipers). The sound can be heard throughout the tune, but it is most apparent during the guitar solo. Listen for the tell-tale scream of those double-stop bends, it is one of the calling cards of the Ultrawave's fuzz tone. The preset uses an Octave / Foldback Fuzz. Foldback is a style of distortion that is more often used in the synthesizer world, but it also sounds outrageously nasty and cool on guitar. As you might imagine, John has the Drive knob turned up as far as it will go for maximum devastation.
"KARA-bass Synth" - C4 Synth - Created by UltraKcy
Another great C4 Synth preset from our old friend Changyong (Ultrakcy is his Neuro name) of Ridin' Bass (our Korean distributor). Changyong is a master of replicating synth-pop bass lines. This time he's replicated the bass sound for the song "When I Move" by the South Korean pop group, KARA. It is a bouncy sub-octave preset with just enough top-end sizzle to single-handedly carry the groove. Changyong was nice enough to solo up the bass track for a couple of seconds in this clip so that we can hear the line by itself AND in the mix. The preset uses all four of the C4's voices - each set to a different oscillator wave shape (two Square waves (both set one octave down), one Sine wave, and one Saw wave). All of the synth oscillators are mixed together and run through a Double Peak filter, which adds additional character.
"Old Friend" & "Dizzy the Cow" - Collider Delay+Reverb - Created by BWondrak
Another very nice Collider Delay+Reverb video from Brett (user name, BWondrak) Wondrak. All the presets in this video sound wonderful, but we're going to focus on a couple of our favorites. The first one is called "Old Friend" (3:18 in the video). It is very spacious combination of a heavily modulated Digital Delay running into a Hall Reverb with the Mix set fairly low. The preset finds its magic in the ping-pong delay effect set to a very slow delay time - sparse playing can be very effective with this type of sound. The second preset (6:00 in the video) is called "Dizzy Up the Cow." It is a wonderful lofi/pitch modulation effect that is achieved by turning the Digital Delay engine's Time control all the way down and its Feedback (the number of repeats) all the way up. So basically it creates a slightly haunting facsimile of the clean tone by stringing together a large number of delay repeats. From there, Brett just adds a heaping helping of pitch modulation and the preset was born.
"Basic Vibrato" - C4 Synth - Created by MickyCGentry
A very nice use of some of the C4 Synth's basic, non-synthesizer features. What we're hearing is a modulating 6-Pole All Pass filter, which creates the illusion of pitch modulation and vibrato. There is also a nice phase dropout at the center of each modulation cycle that creates an effect similar to a tremolo or through zero flanger. The result is a creamy modulation effect that can be used in a variety of musical contexts. Works perfectly for CCR's, "Born On a Bayou."
"Twin Peaks" - Ultrawave Multiband Processor - Created by Jibby87
You had us at the Twin Peaks reference. Luckily both this Ultrawave preset and the sound clip live up to the promise of David Lynch's avant-garde television experiment (to this day we can't figure out how a show as amazing as Twin Peaks was ever given the green-light by the risk-averse studio execs of the time). The Ultrawave preset is a super-unique, vaguely alien sounding effect that runs a 4-Band Foldback fuzz into the Modulation (LFO) module with the Ring-Mod function engaged. Interestingly, the Rate of the Ring-Mod is turned all the way down, which gives the preset a subtle but effective motion. You gotta love the appropriately eerie sound clip that Jibby87 recorded for this preset.
That is all for now. Keep on publishing those presets and recording those sound clips. We are always listening... It's what we do. Enjoy the holiday season!
