"Orchestral" - Ventris Dual Reverb - Created by Sry110
The name says it all... this enormous Ventris Dual Reverb preset transports the listener directly to the center of Boston Symphony Hall (or whichever legendary concert venue you prefer). It's a nice ambient effect that runs the E-Dome in-series to the Hall L reverb for some splendidly full and natural sounding reverberations. "Orchestral" was created and published by Steve Yem (a.k.a. "Sry110"). He takes the ambience one step further by running a volume pedal in front of the Ventris to conjure some spell-binding swell effects - you really can't go wrong running a volume swell in front of the Ventris Dual Reverb. Below are a couple of different clips that Steve recorded.
Steve was also nice enough to share his full signal chain with us. It goes as follows: âPRS SE277 > Boss CP-1X > Boss OC-5 (octave up and octave down) > EHX Mel 9 (Orchestra) > RYRA Klone > Voodoo Lab Giggity > JOYO American Sound > Ernie Ball VP Jr. (swells) > Source Audio Ventris ('Orchestral' preset) "Dawn" & "Digital Tape" - Collider Delay+Reverb - Created by BWondrak
Our old friend Brett Wondrak is back with some great psychedelic ambience via the Collider Delay+Reverb. About a year ago, Brett was our Source Audio Featured Neuro Artist of the month - we highly recommend checking out some of his best presets in his Featured Artist story. We couldn't be happier to hear that Brett has not slowed down - the cool presets keep coming. Brett made the video below to demonstrate a some of his new sounds as well as some of his favorite presets created by others in the Source Audio Community. "Dawn" (0:57 in the video) cascades the Swell Reverb into the Shimmer Reverb and creates some gorgeously lush chord pads. An expression pedal controls the Shimmer regeneration to further intensify this preset's natural blooming effect.
The "Digital Tape" preset (5:19) explores the Collider's little known "Sustain" feature. When used with one of the reverb engines, pressing and holding the Reverb footswitch will sustain the reverb trail and allow you to continue playing over the top. After "Unlocking" the Collider and moving a delay engine to the reverb side of the pedal, pressing and holding the Reverb footswitch sends the delay effect into self oscillation. Finally, Brett included a bonus preset that was actually created by our friend Andrew of Ambient Endevours. Andrew created the "AE_Reflections" (0:03) preset, which cascades the Reverse Delay engine into the Swell Reverb engine. The result is a slightly unpredictable yet intensely musical effect that awakens an other-worldly blooming quality. "Synthwave Juno Bass" - C4 Synth - Created by DAnimal
Anybody into Synthwave? This retro-futurismo bass tone will take you back to a time the never existed. Neuro Community member DAnimal used a combination of 2 Square waves and a Saw wave oscillator through a 6-Pole Low Pass filter to achieve the fuzzy body and punch of a classic Roland Juno 106. We quickly recorded a synthwave inspired track with DAnimal's C4 preset to give you a sense of how the "Synthwave Juno Bass" preset sounds in action. We used the preset in the primary bass line.
It might also be helpful to hear a few sound clips from the original Juno 106. The video below produced by Mr. Card has some excellent examples of the great synth bass sounds that can be achieved with the Juno.
"Hallowed Angel Halo" - Ventris Dual Reverb - Created by Flip362
A very interesting Ventris Dual Reverb preset from our old friend Sean Folk (a.k.a. "Flip362"). "Hallowed Angel Halo" takes the Hall L Reverb engine and turns down the Diffusion control. Diffusion is the part of the reverb algorithm that smears the attack of all the little delay taps in the effect and makes them sound like reverb. Diffused delay taps are how every single reverb pedal and digital rack unit you own creates reverb effects (all those that don't contain an actual spring tank or an enormous piece of sheet metal that is). 99% of the reverb pedals out there don't offer control over the Diffusion. Well... 99% maybe just a reckless estimation, but it's a lot. Anyway, the Ventris DOES offer Diffusion control in the Neuro Editor and Sean turned the it way down to create a very interesting effect that fall somewhere between reverb and delay.
Our own Matt B. talked a little bit about the "Hallowed Angel Halo" preset in a recent Instagram post. In this demo Matt does a nice job of demonstrating how increasing or decreasing Diffusion can affect the character of a reverb.
"Dual Disco Comp" - Atlas Compressor - Created by GroovyPhil
A great little preset created by our own Phil "GroovyPhil" Cambra! Phil is Source Audio's warehouse manager, and he just so happens to also be an excellent singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He dialed in a great tone using the Atlas Compressor's ability to do Dual Split Band Compression.
Basically the Atlas has the capability to run two compressors simultaneously in parallel - one controlling the low frequencies, the other controlling the high frequencies. This configuration solves an issue that can occur with single-band compressors where louder, low frequencies overwhelm the compressor and over-compress the high frequencies. This preset adds a tight and punchy compression on the low-end of your signal, while applying a gentler compression to the high-end, allowing your highs to breathe a little more and maintain their sparkle. It sounds great with funky disco guitar lines... "Andy Timmons Delay" - Collider Delay+Reverb - Created by SourceAudio_Official
We don't usually post our own presets in a This Week in Neuro column, but this one attracted quite a bit of attention. Somebody recently asked us on the GearPage if it was possible to capture an Andy Timmons dual delay configuration with Source Audio gear - the Collider Delay+Reverb handles the job beautifully. The signature Timmons approach to delay is to run two delay pedals in series, the first set to a dotted 8th beat division and the second set to a quarter note. The result is a delay sound that starts off with a distinct beat pattern in the repeats, but quickly comes together and evolves into a sound that resembles a reverb pedal. We explored the sound in a recent Instagram post (see below) where we broke down the preset and showed it in action.
"Gilmour GE-7 MUFF Setting" - EQ2 Programmable EQ - Created by HippieTown
This EQ2 Programmable Equalizer preset is part of a suite that replicates the BOSS GE-7 Equalizer presets that David Gilmour of Pink Floyd paired with various pedals in his rig. It was created by user, HippieTown. There are also presets the replicate the EQ settings Gilmour uses with his BOSS HM-2 and Compressor pedals. We have a special place in our hearts when it comes to David Gilmour. Obviously, there are the iconic records that he recorded over the years, but there is also the fact that Mr. Gilmour has used our Programmable EQ in his rig since the "Rattle That Lock" tour back in 2015. We most recently spotted our EQ on his 2022 board on the Gilmourish.com website.
This is an excellent preset that pairs very nicely with a Ram's Head Big Muff Pi pedal. It has a slight boost in the midrange to add a bit of body and cuts some high and low frequencies to reduce both high-end fizz and low-end tubby-ness. It can really help your Big Muff sing and when combined with the neck pickup on a Strat, it puts the finishing touch on achieving the "Comfortably Numb" solo tone.
