Our weekly roundup of exciting new One Series pedal presets created by the Neuro Community
|
Welcome to the latest edition of "This Week in Neuro," our bi-weekly look at some of the exciting new One Series pedal presets created by the Neuro Community. This week we have a fantastic collection of presets including great use of the pitch shifting powers of the Ventris Reverb's Shimmer engine, a dual delay effect for the Collider Delay+Reverb created specifically for lead guitar, and an excellent 1176 style compression for acoustic guitar via the Atlas Compressor. Click the button below to hear & download this weeks collection of presets.
"Sam Goffen Delay and Shimmer" & "Sam Goffen Dual Delay Solo" - Collider Delay+Reverb - Created by SGoffen
Here is an extraordinary demo for the Collider Delay+Reverb created by user SGoffen (a.k.a. Sam Goffen)! Sam put together an outstanding collection of very useful sounds, but we're going to focus on a couple of our favorites. First up is a preset called "Sam Goffen Delay and Shimmer" (2:20 in the video) - this supremely ambient effect takes advantage of the Collider's ability to run dual delay and reverb effects in parallel rather than series. By default the Collider runs its delay and reverb engines in series, delay cascading into reverb - just if you had separate delay and reverb pedals side-by-side on your board. Here is the trick, by simply holding down the CONTROL INPUT button while moving the KNOBS toggle switch, the Collider automatically reroutes the effects to a parallel configuration, where both effect remains independent of the other and react only to the incoming dry signal. This is a great way to clean up your reverb/delay combo and achieve greater articulation.
The next preset is called "Sam Goffen Dual Delay Solo." (3:33 in the video). It also routes the effects in parallel, but this time Sam taps into the Collider's ability to simultaneously run two delays, each with its own beat division. He has his Digital Delay set to 1/4 notes and his Analog Delay set to triplets. When two separate delays are set to different beat divisions, they can be synced by tapping the Tap Tempo switch. The result is a very rhythmic and usable sound that conjures a wonderfully complex and hypnotic space. "Pitch Mantra" - Ventris Dual Reverb - Created by Uluto
More and more we're seeing horn players plug into Source Audio pedals and we love it. Rashawn Ross, the trumpet player for the Dave Mathews band has been using the Nemesis Delay for years. And it's no wonder, horns sound fantastic when paired with the right effects pedal. Trumpeter and Ventris Dual Reverb owner Alber (his user name is Uluto) has created an excellent example. He takes advantage of the Ventris' ability to change the pitch of the Shimmer reverb to a fourth below the dry signal. The truth is, you can change the pitch of the Shimmer engine to any interval you want, up or down an octave. He then uses the Ventris' Reverb Hold function to sustain his Shimmer reverb tail and plays melodic lines over the top. The clip that Alber recorded with this preset sounds tremendous - do give it a listen. We had to try this preset here at Source Audio headquarters and we're happy to report that it sounds as beautiful on guitar as it does on trumpet.
"DOD 250 v1.0" - L.A. Lady Overdrive - Created by Eqmmb
We were blown away by this preset. Enrique Linares (a.k.a. "Eqmmb") used the L.A. Lady Overdrive's Rat engine as the foundation on which to sculpt a preset based on the beautifully saturated sound of a vintage DOD 250 Overdrive pedal. It is quite striking how close he got to the sounds of the original pedal. To be honest, we had no idea that this was possible, but once again the Neuro Community blows our minds.
"Acoustic Strumming" - Atlas Compressor - Created by Gr00vyPhil
Our man Phil Cambra is back with an excellent Atlas Compressor preset for the acoustic guitar. You will want to listen closely to the clip below. The Atlas' fast moving, 1176 style compressor does an amazing job of softening that spiky acoustic guitar pick attack that comes naturally with piezo pickups, all the while maintaining a nice smooth and even sustain with held chords. Listen closely to the beautiful sustain and added body that appears when Phil engages the pedal. It is subtle, but as anyone with a discerning ear for tone will tell you, little things mean a lot.
"Acid Trip" - Nemesis Delay & "Native Lands" Ventris Dual Reverb - Created by MSBevel
Michael Bevel (user name "msbevel") has been lighting the Neuro Community feed on fire with heaps of excellent tones for the Nemesis Delay and Ventris Reverb. You could be scrolling down the preset feed checking out each of Michael's presets, and if your pedal is connected, it would be jumping from ânormalâ sounds to âambientâ sounds to âcompletely out thereâ sounds, and back again. âThe RANGE on this guy!â
We took a deep dive into a couple of their presets: âAcid Tripâ for the Nemesis Delay and âNative Landsâ for the Ventris Dual Reverb. What might an acid trip sound like through the Nemesis Delay? I think I hear what he's going for; thereâs some pitch-shifting going on in this âDouble Helixâ delay engine, but it isnât exactly straightforward pitch shiftingâit jumps around and glitches out a bit. âNative Landsâ was, however, the true inspiration for the sound clips. A sprawling, expansive dual reverb, complete with a slap-back delay, this preset made me think of playing hours and hours of Explosions In the Sky. So thatâs what we did. "Dreamy Sequence" - C4 Synth - Created by Do_Noise
A classic C4 Synth preset from our old friend Do_Noise. We were recently reminded of how great this preset is when we included it in a short video we produced for the Tokyo Pedal Summit. It's a magical sound that is quite complex, but really makes even the simplest guitar line sound spectacular. It is a combination of Polyphonic Pitch Shifting, a Swell effect, Tremolo, and Step Sequencing - yes, that sounds like a lot, but it just works. Do Noise was our Featured Neuro Artist a couple of months back. If you want to hear some really innovative sounds, you should absolutely check out the recent Featured Artist piece we did with Do Noise.
