Programmable EQ
Can I select a preset with a midi footswitch or device?
By simply plugging into the MIDI input of the Programmable EQ with any MIDI footswitch or MIDI device that sends Program Change messages, you can select each of the 4 available presets and a fifth “pedal off” function. Consult the Programmable EQ User’s Guide for the full MIDI implementation chart.
Can i select or customize which presets are selected with MIDI program change messages?
A firmware update is available that will allow you to select or customize which preset is selected with any given MIDI Program Change message. If you think your Programmable EQ needs a firmware update, please contact us at [email protected], and we can provide you with the correct files and instructions.
Why are my preset numbers not matching midi pc numbers?
The Programmable EQ’s presets can be mapped to different program change values, which might explain the behavior you’re experiencing. To map a preset to a program change value, send the Programmable EQ a MIDI PC from a MIDI controller, then use the Programmable EQ’s Select button to choose the desired preset to be recalled. Hold down the Save button to save the mapping.
Hot Hand 3 Wireless Effects Controller
how many hot hand 3 units can i use at once?
You can use up to four Hot Hand systems (a ring and a receiver) at the same time, but you can only assign one to an individual pedal.
can i assign more than one ring axis from a hot hand 3 to a pedal?
With Hot Hand 3, only one ring axis at a time can be assigned to an individual pedal. The Hot Hand receiver determines the ring axis the pedal is controlled by. See “Selecting an Output Mode” in the Hot Hand 3 User Guide.
does the hot hand 3 work on its own or make sounds by itself?
The Hot Hand 3 does not actually make any sound by itself; it needs to be used with a Source Audio effect pedal, or another brand’s (also referred to as a 3rd party) effect pedal. The Hot Hand 3 controls a specific function of the pedal it’s connected to, called a parameter. For example, these parameters can be the sweep of a filter, the speed of a phaser, or the amount of distortion.
is ring calibration necessary out of the box?
Ring calibration is not necessary out of the box, but it may be desirable to re-calibrate the ring depending on your specific playing needs. When you calibrate the ring, you are determining the physical middle-point of your total range of movement. It may be desirable to have this middle-point be positioned differently than parallel to the ground, as it is out of the box. Consult the Hot Hand 3 User Guide for instructions on setting the calibration of the ring.
how do i adjust the sensitivity of the ring? what do depth & smooth do?
Adjusting the ring’s sensitivity depends on the pedal you are using it with. The DEPTH and SMOOTH knobs on the receiver are used when controlling a 3rd party effect pedal. They control how much total range of movement you have, and how sensitive the ring is to that movement. When using Hot Hand 3 with Soundblox, Soundblox Pro, or Soundblox 2 pedals, the DEPTH and SMOOTH knobs on the receiver are inactive. Typically, certain knobs on the Soundblox pedal itself now function as Depth and Smooth controls when Hot Hand is selected. Consult the various User Guides of each pedal for further information.
sometimes the ring and receiver become disconnected. how can i avoid this?
Make sure there is a clear “line-of-sight” between the ring and receiver. You can be up to 100ft away from the receiver without any issues, as long as there are no obstructions (walls, amps, crowds) blocking the signal path. If the ring’s signal suddenly becomes disconnected, make sure you are in a clear line-of-sight to the receiver; press the ring’s power button twice, to turn off then on again, to restore the connection.
suddenly the hot hand 3 won't do anything. is it broken?
There is a factory Test Mode that can be accidentally activated while changing Axis outputs, or in calibrating the ring. Following these steps can easily turn this Test Mode off:
- If ring is connected with the receiver, power off the ring.
- Press and hold the “Calibrate” button until the “Mode” light begins blinking.
- Rotate the SMOOTH knob all the way to the left, then all the way to right (the blue “Status” light will blink quickly to indicate Test mode is off).
- Repeat SMOOTH knob rotation if necessary, until the blue “Status” light blinks quickly.
- Press and hold the “Calibrate” button until the Mode light turns solid.
- Re-power the ring to connect to the receiver and test
Hot Hand USB Wireless MIDI Controller
how many hot hand usb units can i use at once?
You can use up to four Hot Hand USB systems (a ring and a receiver) at the same time, provided you have the available number of USB ports on your computer. Using Hot Hand USB with a USB hub will work, but your performance may be compromised.
can hot hand usb be used with software outside of music production?
Hot Hand USB can be used with any software that accepts MIDI control information. This could be any kind of MIDI controlled software such as a 3D drawing program or stage lighting control program.
how do i update the firmware of the hot hand usb? is it important?
We offer firmware updates from time to time, to give you the best we can offer in our products. It’s always a good idea to stay up to date with the latest firmware. To update your firmware, open the Source Audio Hot Hand USB Editor Software, go to the “Options” tab, and click on “Auto-Check Firmware”. From there, you will be prompted to select and upload the firmware automatically. We strongly suggest that you have the Hot Hand USB receiver connected directly to your computer, and NOT to a USB hub when updating firmware.
how do i isolate a single axis of the ring when i want to map it to a midi parameter?
On the Hot Hand USB Software Editor, in the upper right corner of each MIDI Output Module, there is a solo button marked with an “S”. When clicked, it will only allow information from that particular MIDI Output Module to be sent to the program where you are mapping a MIDI parameter. Notice all other MIDI Output Modules become inactive. Don’t forget to click the solo button again when finished to resume sending all MIDI axis information. Consult the Hot Hand USB User Guide for more information on this topic.
Soundblox 2
can a soundblox 2 pedal save more than two presets?
All Soundblox 2 pedals can save two presets internally, one to each footswitch. Using any Soundblox 2 pedal with the Soundblox Hub and a MIDI footswitch allows you to create up to 128 extra presets (called scenes) that are stored in the memory of the Soundblox Hub. These scenes are in addition to the two presets saved to an individual pedal. Each scene can also engage combinations of pedals per scene. Click on the Soundblox Hubfor more information.
can i use my expression pedal to control a soundblox 2 pedal?
All Soundblox 2 pedals can only be controlled with the Source Audio Dual Expression pedal if connected directly. Each pedal features a special 3.5mm Multi-Function input as an auxiliary input. These provide connections for a variety of Source Audio accessories, and will not work with a cable adapter to fit. However, a standard passive expression pedal can be connected to the Soundblox Hub and then to your Soundblox 2 pedals.
can i control features and parameters with midi?
All parameters in a Soundblox 2 pedal can be controlled and adjusted via MIDI Control Change messages. The Soundblox Hub serves as a MIDI interface for all Soundblox 2 pedals. For more information about the Soundblox Hub and its MIDI Implementation Chart, please consult the Soundblox Hub User Guide.
sometimes the footswitches create a popping sound. is that normal?
It is normal for True Bypass pedals to create a popping sound from footswitch use. This is the nature of this kind of signal path switching circuit. All Soundblox 2 pedals are set to being True Bypass pedals out-of-the-box, but they can be switched to a Buffered Bypass circuit to eliminate the popping sound created by the footswitches. Simply hold down the right footswitch while powering up the pedal, and release it after both footswitch LEDs blink. The pedal will stay in the Buffered Bypass mode until the procedure is repeated to switch back to True Bypass. For more information on Source Audio’s Universal Bypass feature, please consult the User Guidefor your specific Soundblox 2 pedal.
are tap tempo and midi clock available in all the soundblox 2 series?
Tap Tempo and MIDI Clock are available features found in the Orbital Modulator and the Manta Bass Filter, for they both feature LFO modulations. Future pedals that include time-based effects will also include these features. In order to accept MIDI Time Clock, the Soundblox Hub needs to be used and connected to the desired Soundblox 2 pedal. In the pedal, a preset needs to be created that has Tap Tempo engaged. To engage Tap Tempo, starting in effect bypass mode, press and hold either footswitch. This will be the preset footswitch that features Tap Tempo, and the opposite footswitch will become your Tap Tempo control. For more information about Tap Tempo, please consult the User Guide for your specific Soundblox 2 pedal.
how do i assign a hot hand or dual expression pedal signal to a parameter?
An external controller, like the Hot Hand or Dual Expression Pedal, can be assigned to any parameter in the Soundblox 2 line. Depending on the pedal being controlled, selecting the external controller with the pedal may differ. It’s best to consult the User Guide for your specific Soundblox 2 pedal.
HOW DO I TOGGLE REVERB TRAILS MODE ON MY DIMENSION REVERB?
To enable Trails Mode (soft bypass) on the Dimension Reverb, press and hold both footswitches while powering the pedal. Hold the footswitches down until both LEDs blink slowly.
To go back to True Bypass, press and hold the left footswitch while powering the pedal. Hold the footswitch until 1 LED begins to blink.
To go back to True Bypass, press and hold the left footswitch while powering the pedal. Hold the footswitch until 1 LED begins to blink.
Soundblox Pro
what is "backpage mode?"
“Backpage Mode” is a special feature that allows you to further customize, and control parameters with each pedal. Typically this is for assigning control of external controllers like the Expression Pedal, or customizing LFO shapes (Bass Envelope Filter, Poly-Mod Filter). Access to “Backpage Mode” is designated on the face of each pedal, showing two buttons to press simultaneously. For further information about the features you can edit in “Backpage Mode”, please consult the specific User Guide for your Soundblox Pro pedal.
can any expression pedal be used with the soundblox pro series?
All Soundblox Pro pedals accept a passive expression pedal via the “EXP IN” port. It is designed for use with the output value from the Source Audio Dual Expression Pedal, which contains a 50-Ohm potentiometer. Using other expression pedal may produce inconsistent results. Please consult to Owner’s Manual for your specific expression pedal’s specifications.
is ring calibration necessary with the soundblox pro series?
Ring calibration on the Soundblox Pro in not necessary, and was designed for calibrating the WIRED Hot Hand ring. When you calibrate the ring, you are determining the physical middle-point of your total range of movement. It may be desirable to have this middle-point be positioned differently than parallel to the ground, as it is out of the box. These rings are still available for purchase, but have been all but replaced by the Hot Hand 3. For more information about calibration with the Soundblox Pro series, please consult the User Guide for your specific Soundblox Pro pedal.

I AM EXPERIENCING EXCESS NOISE OR HUM. HOW DO I GET RID OF IT?
This behavior can sometime occur if the pedal is underpowered. Select "Can I use other power supplies with my pedal" to view power specs for all of our products. Ensure that the power supply being used for your pedal is isolated and providing adequate power. If the noise persists, there is also a chance that a ground loop is present. To eliminate this possibility, power all of your connected devices from a single wall outlet with a power strip. If there is still no progress, please isolate the pedal (Instrument - pedal - amp). If the noise is gone, start introducing other devices back into the signal chain one at a time. When the noise returns, try using a different power supply or power supply cable, and patch cables for that device. Damaged cables can also lead to noise.
