A few months back we learned through an article in Guitar World magazine that Robin Guthrie, the legendary guitarist of the Scottish new wave/dream pop/harbingers of shoegaze band Cocteau Twins, had turn to the Ventris Dual Reverb as his go to reverb effects pedal. He says, “I've got this really interesting reverb that I've been using. In about 2017/2018, I bought a Source Audio Ventris pedal, which I can use for a lot of reverb-y things now. It's like my go-to big, swirly reverb at the moment.” Check out our Robin Guthrie blog for more info.
So from there we move on to this excellent video from those interstellar hepcats over at Pedal Partners. Pedal Partners specialize in shoegaze guitar tones. They are experts in the artist that create this swirling, hypnotic genre, how to play it, and the gear you need to achieve its brash and etherial sound. Cocteau Twins are paramount in the story of shoegaze. My Bloody Valentine's Loveless LP was certainly a watershed moment in the genre, but the Cocteau Twins, who did the majority of their essential work in the late eighties, early nineties, definitely set the table. Robin Guthrie embraced the combination of chorus, reverb and fuzz effects to create glorious, cloud-like tones. Our friends at Pedal Partners do an excellent job of channeling Guthrie and how he might use the Ventris Dual Reverb's many powers in the creation of celestial, aggressive guitar tones.
