Vernon Reid
There are many musicians who would describe themselves with terms like "sonic voyager" or "tone explorer." Every single one of us is on a never-ending quest to improve our sound or discover some type of sound yet unheard, but there are a select few musicians that REALLY, REALLY fit that bill - say hello to Vernon Reid. When Vernon exploded into the public consciousness with the release of Living Colour's debut album, Vivid, every single guitarist who was paying attention knew that they were hearing something very different. Listeners heard the speed and dexterity of EVH, the raw ferocity of Hendrix, mixed together with an Ornette Coleman sense of adventure. We all heard something different in Reid's playing, but most agreed that and it was thrilling.
Moving through the following 30 or more years, Vernon continues to explore, innovate, and experiment within the realm of guitar, and music gear and particularly guitar pedals have played a huge role in his journey. Try Googling "Vernon Reid's Pedalboard" - you will instantly find yourself sifting through an endless collection of studio and stage pedalboard photos and no two of them will look the same. They say that in life, the only constant is change - well, this is also the case in Vernon's pedalboard. In his never-ending quest for new sounds Vernon has plugged into a countless array of guitar effects pedals, amps, and signal processors. We at Source Audio are honored that he has turned to our gear many times over the course of his career. Vernon was actually one of the first major musicians to use Source Audio gear, from way back in the days of the original Multiband Distortion all the way through to the C4 Synth.
Speaking of Vernon and Source Audio gear, one of our favorite pedal related videos was produced right on the 2016 NAMM floor when he stopped by our booth to hear what was new in the world of Source Audio. We had just released the Nemesis Delay and Vernon decided to give it a go. Totally off-the-cuff he started pulling new and unexpected sounds from the Nemesis. You're going to want to hear this...

And because we're here, how about we go back and listen to the song that started it all. Just prior to the tidal-wave of grunge in the early 90s, there was Living Colour, a band that certainly harbingered a coming movement and introduced popular culture to a sound that combined elements of heavy guitar rock with punk and something known of at the time as "college rock." Cult of Personality also introduced us to the amazing guitar playing of Mr. Vernon Reid.

So that is the music, but let's take a look at gear. Here is a small sampling of some of the pedalboard photos we mentioned earlier. I wish I could confirm the years and locations of all these boards, but there are only so many hours in the day. Instead let's just enjoy this little trip through a a few of the many phases of Vernon's constantly evolving pedalboard.
