The Linda Lindas

Picture
There is a deafening roar coming from the West. It's loud, it's aggressive, it's revolutionary, it's the Linda Lindas! Based in Los Angeles, CA the Linda Lindas are made up of two sisters, a cousin, and one close friend, every one of them under the age of 20. This dynamic young quartet exploded onto the scene just a few years ago in May 2021, when they posted a video of their song "Racist, Sexist Boy," performed live at the Los Angeles Public Library. It was an instant classic and quickly worked its way through the wires of the internet with a  view count of nearly 2 million.  The video's popularity is no surprise, the performance perfectly captures the spirit of vintage punk rock, a brutal condemnation of injustice, in-your-face power chords, and truckloads of volume and attitude. These woman have clearly found their voice channeling the spirit  of west coast punk and hardcore legends from the Dead Kennedys and the Runaways, right up through to Green Day and Rancid. They certainly caught the attention of Green Day and Rancid - the Linda Lindas are about to embark on an extensive stadium tour this summer with both bands (as well as Smashing Pumpkins). Quite an impressive accomplishment for a group of California teens, but the Linda Lindas are no strangers to large audiences. Over the past two years, they not only did a summer long tour with Paramore, they have played countless festivals around the country including Coachella,  Lollapalooza, and the not-to-be-forgotten Boston Calling Festival, which happened last summer over at the Harvard Sports Complex in Cambridge, Massachusetts, right next door to the Source Audio HQ (maybe not RIGHT next door, but close enough).

Their debut record, "Growing Up" combined with a pair of fantastic singles release in 2023 are a testament to the power of the Linda Lindas. From the raw aggression of "Racist, Sexist Boy" to the power-pop infectiousness of "Too Many Things," they have a way of getting in your ear and staying there. Check out this ferocious Los Angeles performance from January 2022 at World Cafe.

Bela Salazar

Source Audio could not be happier to support the Linda Lindas in their quest for world domination. Our old friend Bobb Bruno from the iconic band Best Coast recently sent us some pedalboard photos from Bela Salazar and Lucia De La Garza. Bobb has been helping out the Lindas with guitar tech duties when he's not recording and touring with Best Coast (Wow, you couldn't ask for a better guitar tech!).  The final pedal in both of their boards is non other than the Collider Delay+Reverb! Bela Salzar  favors the combination of the Collider's Analog Delay and the True Spring Reverb - she clearly edges towards vintage tones.

Lucia De La Garza

Lucia De La Garza uses both the Collider Delay+Reverb and the ZIO Analog Front End + Boost on her board. Lucia also engages the Collider's Analog Delay, but combines it with the Collider's Plate Reverb. It appears she is also a lover of vintage tones. Directly in front of the Collider is our ZIO Analog Boost set to the Studio circuit. The ZIO's Studio circuit captures the sound of the legendary "Pultec Trick," a setting on the Pultec EQP-1A that studio engineers have used for decades. It cuts the "mud" frequencies while it gives a slight boost to the upper mids, giving the guitar extra clarity and low-end muscle where it really counts.

Be sure to go and see the Linda Lindas this summer with Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, and Rancid. They're coming to a baseball park or football stadium near you! The tour is scheduled to visit Source Audio's corner of the planet on August 9 when they hit the stage at Fenway Park, Boston's most beloved patch of green.

As is customary on our artist profile pages, we want to end things with a look at some stand-out videos from the band. The first  video features a great studio track from the Linda Lindas, "Resolution/Revolution." It's from a single released by Epitaph records in late 2023. The word on the street is that the Linda Lindas are working on their second full length album as we speak. This song is a clear indication that the band is growing and evolving musically, we have no doubt that it is harbinger of what's to come on their soon-to-be-released record.
Ooh, this is a treat, The Linda Lindas performing a cover of the Go-Gos classic, "Tonight," with Go-Gos drummer Gina Schock behind the kit and Lindas drummer, Mila De La Garza taking lead vocal responsibilities. They rule the streets tonight!
Finally, it's impossible to talk about the Linda Linda's without including the video that started it all, "Racist, Sexist Boy" recorded live at the LA Public Library. This is the song and its powerful stance against racism grabbed the world's attention and received high praise from an esteemed collection of punk/indie/alternative rock icons including Kathleen Hanah of Bikini Kill, Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers. But please keep it down, people are trying to study.
