A Trouble Shooting Guide to Connecting Neuro 3 To Your Pedal
Thank you for being a valued customer and user of the Neuro 3 Public Beta! If you are having issues connecting your Source Audio pedal with the software please try these steps:
1. First, make sure you aren’t also running Neuro 2. The apps will compete for the same computer resources and will not function together. Sometimes DAW functions (such as USB MIDI) can interfere as well, so closing out of that can also be a useful first step.
2. Next, make sure you have the latest Neuro 3 Version installed. On mobile, this can easily be done from the Apple App Store or the Android Google Play Store. On Desktop, the current version is 3.0.20 (released on 8/26/24) and can be downloaded here. When installing a new version of Neuro 3, it is best practice to first uninstall the previous version. You can check your current version in the Desktop application by going to your profile and clicking the three dots (see photo below):

3. Next, if you are continuing to experience problems, make sure that you are using the pedal's proper connection point. Our more recent releases support a mobile USB connection.
Pedals with two-way USB connections include the following:
If you are on desktop and using a USB hub, try connecting directly to the computer if possible.
4. If you are using any sort of USB connection, be mindful of any adapters or cables you are using.
5. If you are using a TRS mobile connection, make sure your phone is properly calibrated, and the system volume is at maximum.

4. If you are using any sort of USB connection, be mindful of any adapters or cables you are using.
- a. Make sure any adapters are plugged into your device before plugging in the USB cable.
- b. Confirm that the USB cable you are using supports both power + data transmission and is not just a charging cord. A good test is to try the cable with Neuro 2. If it is a functional data cable, the software will recognize the pedal. All cables that ship with Source Audio products are data cables and will work.
- c. Some early Artifakt Lo-Fi Elements had an issue with the USB and must be connected via a USB C->A cable (the one in the box), or through that cable and an USB A->C adapter in order to make a USB C->C connection. If you have one of these pedals, we can fix this issue so you can use a regular USB C->C cable. Please contact us and we will happily repair your pedal. If you would rather not ship it in, we can also ship you an A->C adapter.
5. If you are using a TRS mobile connection, make sure your phone is properly calibrated, and the system volume is at maximum.
- a. If you are using a USB-C (Android) or Lightning (iOS) to headphone jack adapter, ideally use one manufactured by the phone producer (i.e., an Apple adapter is more likely to work for iOS than a third party one). Furthermore, check the adapter with a pair of wired headphones to confirm that the adapter is functioning properly.
Here are some more troubleshooting steps:
- a. When sending a Neuro Mobile App message, does the control input LED (towards the top of the pedal) flash in response? If not, check that the mobile device's volume is set to 100%, and the 1/4" end of the TRS cable is going into Input 2 of the pedal. If the control input LED still does not blink, or it blinks but no changes are made, use a lower volume (40-95%).
-
- Any progress? If not, unplug the 1/8" end of the TRS cable from the mobile device, and send any Neuro Mobile App message. Is there a burst of white noise? Please ensure the headphone port of the mobile device works by plugging in headphones and listening at a low volume level. Do not listen at high volume, it will be LOUD. Also, ensure that the mobile device is not applying filtering to the audio signal (3D-ify, Bass Boost, etc...). If the mobile device is in a case, confirm that it is not obstructing the audio cable from being plugged in completely.
- Side Note: The Neuro Mobile App has one-way communication with devices that are connected over TRS; the pedal can receive messages from mobile devices, but mobile devices cannot receive messages from the pedal. Because of this, hardware and sound editor parameters will not necessarily show the exact configurations of the connected pedal. For example, if edits are made in the Hardware Options menu, then the menu is opened later, the default settings will be shown. Not to worry, your settings have been saved to the pedal, despite the changes not being reflected on the mobile device. For two-way communication, use the Neuro Desktop Editor or a pedal that supports a USB mobile connection.
6. If you are using a Source Audio Neuro Hub, we are aware of some existing issues with Neuro 3 and are working hard to resolve them as quickly as possible.
- a. If you see different scenes than expected, know that this is just a visual bug and your scenes are still intact and not corrupted.
- b. Hub backups are not yet supported in N3 but will be soon.
- c. If you are continuing to have Hub related issues, please contact us here and we would be happy to help.
