Jammys Report!

This is the first in a series of reports from Roger Smith, the fearless and intrepid President of Source Audio!

What a fantastic time the Jammys were! I have never before been to such a celebration of so many friends and so many great musicians. This 7th Annual Jammys  extravaganza at MSG featured Phish recieving a lifetime achievement award, and numerous great performances from Trey Anastasio, Warren Haynes, Tea Leaf Green,  Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze, Galactic, Booker T. Sharon Jones, rapper Doug E. Fresh, the Fab Faux; and jazz musicians Roy Haynes, Christian McBride, James Carter and Nicholas Payton.

One of the highlights was meeting Leslie West, one of the very first American "guitar heroes", who influenced a whole generation of guitarists. And, talk about courage - imagine being the one who would share a stage with Jack Bruce after the demise of Cream? I recall someone saying that of all human attributes, courage is the greatest, because without it, you can't do any of the others! How right that wise person was.

Seeing such an "elder statesman" of the improvisational guitar scene also helps to legitimize the whole jam-band movement - as Leslie was, and still is, a huge fan of the spirit of musical creativity, which is the life blood of the jam band heritage, and was the same for Mountain, and West, Bruce and Laing.

Some of the other highlights were, a 7 year-old Japanese guitarist (that's right, seven!) playing a near-perfect version of "Crazy Train" with Galactic at BB King's (when I was 7 I was working on my Cub Scout Wolf Badge and incinerating flies with a magnifing glass I got in a Cracker Jacks box), hanging out with host , the great Warren Haynes, and of course seeing Chevy Chase.

So many of the loyal friends of Source Audio were also present; Jake of Umphrey's, Eric Krasno of Soulive, Jeff Raines of Galactic, and Jon Guttwillig of the Disco Biscuits. Our own moe won a musch deserved award, and we are very proud of them - as we are of all our Hot Hand players!
