Where do you go for new music on the internet?
I have been a fan of Radio Paradise for a while -
and I have recently been listening to Slacker.
On both stations, I have heard many incredible tunes that I probably would never have heard elsewhere. Paradise is set up with one basic "channel", and you just sit back and listen to their set list - which is really varied. I have heard the Hellecasters, Django, Daniel Lanois, Nick Drake, Derek Trucks, Sonny Landreth, and many more. Of course, some days the dj can sense what I want to hear more than others.
Slacker is much more programmable - you can create and name your own stations based on artists, or just choose form one of the many genres and sub-genres, or by typing in an artist name, where you will get that artist, and similar artists. I typed in "King Crimson" and for an hour I was greeted by a few selections from "Red" and "Starless and Bible Black", as well as tunes by Rush, Van Der Graf Generator, Gentle Giant, Yes, Genesis and a plethora of enough other egg-headed tunes to keep me happy for some time. I later typed in "Small Faces", and heard cuts from "Ogden's Nut Gone Flake", and enough tunes by The Pretty Things, The Who, The Kinks, Beatles, Stones and Yardbirds to where I wanted to order a pint of John Courage, throw an order of mushy peas onto a moving bus, and wear tighter trousers that I shoud even consider. Now that's what I call inspiration. Or madness - but if caused by great music, any incidental acts must be considered harmless.
Of course, it made me want a Vox AC30 as well and a Sonic Blue strat with a rosewood fingerboard.
Where do you go for inspiration?
