Are we slaves to whatever is NEW in technology? Or do we choose the best of the new and combine it with out favorites?
Craig Anderton writes a great column for Harmony Central, and I felt that this topic never get old - as there is always something "new and improved". http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1618469
I firmly believe that there are always improvements to be made - to guitars, amplifiers, computers, software, and yes guitar effects. If we didn't think so, we would not be in business here at Source Audio!
Look at RKS Guitars, for example. Not is the Darkstar my newest guitar aquisition, but it is perhaps the most unique (from a traditional guitar design point of view) and easlily one of my best sounding guitars.
What Do I play it through?
1. 1970 Marshall - vintage by today's standards, "new and improved" in 1970.
2. 1985 Mesa Boogie Mark III. Not really considered "vintage", but definately "new and improved" at the time.
3. Line 6 Tone Port UX2. Vintage? Be serious, please. "New and improved"? Of course.
And, of course we find ourselves looking at guitar effects - is our Hot Hand line of effects "new and improved"? Of course.
But whether new or vintage, all these artifacts and gizmos must inspire us to work and produce.
Otherwise, it's just a vintage car in a garage at which we stare and dream.
