All of us at Source Audio are proud to report that another supreme guitarist has been using our Multiwave Pro Classic Distortion live - Tony MacAlpine.
Tony rose to prominence on the Shrapnel label in the 1980's, and was seen as a contemporary of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen and other luminaries of the "shredder" subculture.
However impressive his technical abilities were two decades ago, it is Tony's more recent work that is truly spellbinding.
His band Cab, with Brian Auger on keyboards, Bunny Brunel on bass and Dennis Chambers on drums offers some of the finest jazz-rock fusion (for lack of a better term) I have heard since the Tony Williams "New" Lifetime of the late 1970's, which featured Allan Holdsworth, Antonio Newton and Alan Pasqua. What just one listen will show you in that not only does Tony have world-class chops, with nods to Mssrs. Holdsworth and Malmsteen, but he can glide effortlessly over complex changes and time signatures, without any of the stiffness that so many of the earlier fusion players unfortunately sometimes possess.
And, my fine feathered friends, is not all: Tony does not just play guitar in Steve Vai's band - he handles the keyboard duties as well. Feel inadequate yet??????
This week Tony plays in New Zealand with HAIL! at the G-Taranaki Festival. He'll also be jamming with Slash, Uli John Roth, Vinnie Moore and Jennifer Batten in what is sure to be an action-packed weekend!
Tony is also in a new band called Seven the Hard Way, and here's their Myspace page for a listen.
Have a look at his website and let us know what you think.
