What are you going to do this summer? Sit
in front of the television watching reruns of "The Golden Girls" and
commercials for ShamWow and Oxy Clean? Well you had better start making
plans soon to ensure that that won't happen! Lucky for you there is a
plethora of great festivals around this summer, featuring great bands!
First off, there is Bonnaroo
in Manchester, Tennessee, on the dates of June 11-14. A number of
Source Audio artists will be performing, including moe., Galactic, the
Decemberists, Kaki King and Nine Inch Nails.
Also, we have Wakarusa
in Ozark, Arkansas, on June 4-7. Performing Source Audio artists are
Galactic, G. Love and Special Sauce, and Perpetual Groove.
Not to leave out California, where the Harmony Festival
(Santa Rosa, June 12-14) will make waves. Our one artist performing
will be Spearhead. This noteworthy event will focus on music, art,
ecology and healthy living. Something tells me that there will be many
happy people there - and you want to sit home in a Snuggie instead?
Commerce City in Colorado (just 9 miles from Denver) will host the Mile High Music Festival
on July 18 1nd 19. Our artists performing will be Guster, Galactic, G.
Love and Special Sauce, and Robert Randolph and The Family Band.
Rothbuty, Michigan, will be proud host to the Rothbury Festival
on July 2-5. Our buddies playing there will be Galactic (wow these guys
are bu-say!), G. Love and Special Sauce, Umphrey's McGee, Soulive and
Toots and the Maytals.
Milwaukee will be hosting perhaps the Mother of All Festivals - Summerfest 2009.
From June 25 to July 5, over 700 bands will play from noon to midnight
daily on 11 stages. Not only will Bob Dylan and Stevie Wonder play, but
many other favorites from the 70's and 80's, including Bon Jovi and
Robin Trower. And just because Loverboy is playing, don't even think
you can wear your tight red leather pants to the show. Ok, go ahead -
but you might be standing alone.
On June 20, Atlanta will host the MidSummer Music Festival. Our very own Guster will be playing, as will Webster Humpage,Sol Junky,
Honey Island Swamp Band, Sonia Leigh, Jupiter Coyote, and Rusted Root.
Jackson, Mississippi will welcome us all to the Jubilee Jam
on June 19 and 20. Come and check out these bands: Carolina Liar,
Medeski Martin & Wood, our own Guster, Cyril Neville & Tribe
13, JJ Grey & Mofro, Daddy (Will Kimbrough and Tommy Womack), Joan
Jett & The Blackhearts
Drowning Pool, David Banner, Tantric, Dickey Betts & Great Southern
Blue Mountain, Dead Confederate, and Charm City Devil.
