I seriously hope that you ALL saw this on the tube (or the "chip") the other night.
Fergie singing "Gimme Shelter" with Mick Jagger and U2? I had never heard that song sound so good before - Feegie just killed on the original vocal parts sung by Mary Clayton. Sting and Jeff Beck playing "People Get Ready"? Buddy Guy and Billy Gibbons playing with Jeff Beck? When Jeff is going to play, you always hear him do something new. And his bad was awesome (incluging bass phenom Tal, and we'll have more news on her and Source Audio in the very near future). Metallica with Ray Davies doing "All Day and All of the Night"? Yes, it was that good. What incredible combinations of players! And that wasn't everybody, by a long shot.
Some things just make you glad to be a musician. And I hate to say it, but during the ebb and flow of our daily lives, we all need the occasional reminder from time to time. This show was a fantastic reminder. Inspiring to see players in their 50's, 60's and 70's totally giving up the goods and having a great time doing it - as was the sold-out audience at MSG. And, seeing the younger players and bands showing absolute respect for the elder statesmen is what's it's all about. I'm going to watch it all over again - and I'd suggest that you do the same!
