well, this has got to be good news:http://www.accesshollywood.com/news/ah3955.shtml
How can this not be exciting to you? Born in the late 1970's, the Police came into their own in the 1980's. Their sparse and intoxicating blend of ryhthmic, harmonic and textural surprises sounds as unique now as it did almost 30 years ago.
Which brings some other things to mind.............such as - maybe the 80's were as not as lame at some would like us to believe.
True - the fashions were pretty pathetic. The haircuts were abyssmal. MTV was like an addictive Krispy Kreme doughnut, with after-effects similar to the use of meth. I actually could not wait to get home to watch it, even knowing it was vapid.
However - you have go to admit - some of the 80's music was pretty great. U2, the Police, the Pretenders, Peter Gabriel and (insert your favorite here) pack a pretty impressive punch. And, especially if you play guitar, how can you ignore the Edge, Andy Summers, Allan Holdsworth, King Crimson, and of course, Eddie, Yngwie and Randy????
Not only were there great bands, but recordings took a depth and sheen miles removed from the midrangey tin-can sound on many 70's records. Of course, on many occasions we saw production overshadowing substance, but we can't stop technology's advancement. We can just hope that the shallow music goes away.
And, the fact that the Police are back just for the Grammy's and the following night at the Whiskey, shows us that substance never goes away.
It's also a reminder for us to leave OUR personal mark.
