For those of you that are familiar with Tony MacAlpine's guitar work, you are already well-versed with one of today's most amazing guitarists. For those you you who are not, you have a real treat in store you you. How many other guitarists can effortlessly combine post Van Halen rock and roll, Yngwie-approved sweeping and Bach inspired violin-like passages and Holdsworthian legato playing over complex chord changes, without missing a beat? That's right - we can't think of too many, if any at all!. In fact, we have previously discussed the true meaning and concept on this blog of what exactly defines the word "progressive", and Tony personifies that term as well as anyone possibly can.
Lucky for all of us that Tony has a new release out, with two tracks available for free download from his official website.
We're also very proud to report that Tony used our Classic Pro Distortion on many of the new tunes - and on his tour of China a number of months ago. Tony's guitar tones on the CAB cd's (his quartet with Bunny Brunel, Dennis Chambers and Brian Auger) proves that his ear for great tones is as much a priority as are his note choices. His distortion sounds are saturated and gooey enough for his legato lines, yet with an aggressive and crisp edge that show his rock influences. And, like all the truly great players that are our favorites over the decades, you never know what awaits your ears in five seconds when listening to Tony.
Listen up and enjoy - and you better catch Tony on tour soon!
