MySpace - Where is YOUR Page?

Saturday, March 01, 2008

I read a great article in Electronic Musician on the importance of a MySpace Page for all musicians - especially if you ever want to do anything professionally.

The article is 2 years old, but the essentials are still true - perhaps even more so.

A website for you (or your band) and your music is also of key importance - but to me, MySpace already has so many advantages, that if you had to choose just one, it would be really hard not to choose MySpace.

MySpace has a huge and loyal following of musicians - not all kids looking to gossip about the History Class substitute's mullet - and if there are any lingering doubts, go to myspace and look up any band since the 1960's, and tell me what you find.

Not only can you add "friends" (other bands, your fans, local or living 5,000 miles away), but you can write a blog, send bulletins (that go to all your friends), set up giveaways, and have a live concert schedule, but you can have up to 4 of your songs up on your site, and specify if those tunes can be downloaded for free - or even be sold for a nominal fee.

And, take it from someone who has his own page

- getting a compliment from a stranger will always make your day better.
