Mike Sullivan of Russian Circles

Source Audio’s warehouse/shipping manager, Matt Kobrenski, turned the rest of us on to the indisputable awesomeness of Russian Circles. Damn, these dudes are good. They’ve been making killer instrumental rock records since 2006. We’re pretty much blown away by their latest studio record, 2016’s Guidance. It’s a perfect blend of dark ambient passages and heavy, heavy guitar riffs. We’re also pretty stoked that it was recorded right down the road at God City Studios in Salem, MA, by our pal Kurt Ballou. (“We record sounds” – that is God City’s claim, and we will vouch for them). If you have not heard Russian Circles yet, you must do it now.

Mike Sullivan or Russian Circle's Pedalboard

We’re particularly happy that the RC’s guitarist, Mike Sullivan, has added the Nemesis Delay to his board. We recently got word that Mike uses the Nemesis Delay’s Digital engine with a dotted eighth pattern for the song, “Mota” – a killer track off of the new record. It’s interesting - Mike generally leans toward vintage gear, but has a preference for the clarity of digital delays. He talks about his fondness for crisp delay repeats (among many other gear related subjects) in this recent episode of Premier Guitar Rig Rundown. We’re big Rig Rundown fans here at Source Audio and this one is a gem. Do check it out.

Russian Circles just finished the first leg of a massive tour with Mastodon and The Eagles of Death Metal (incredible bill!!) and will be going out with them again in late September. We suggest you attend – the RC’s live show is unstoppable.
