Did you catch this special of Les Paul on PBS? http://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/If you didn't see it, do yourself a favor and buy it. NOW!
What a brilliant man Les Paul is - and his history of music making and inventions are truly industry-changing.
To hear Les tell the stories of how he "attached" an additional recording head to a reel to reel player to invent multi-track recording (and how he threw his crutches to the floor and danced with Mary Ford) was amazing. And those recordings of his guitar "orchestra" - spellbinding to this day. Not to mention his great work with Bing Crosby, and his tale of how his trio walked into the recording studio to play at the end of the day when everyone else was leaving - what an entertaining show.
Not to mention interviews and meetings with Paul McCartney, BB King, Jeff Beck, Tony Bennett, Eddie Van Halen, and many more. And Richard Carpenter - he sang those guitar lines note-for-note - a true fanatic of Les' music.
Nice to see how a real innovator is appreciated in his time here on Earth!
