We recently had a visit with Jesse Miller of Lotus as the band came through Boston to headline the House of Blues. Together, we explored the sounds of the Soundblox Bass Envelope Filter and the Soundblox Pro Multiwave Bass Distortion by plugging them straight into his pedal board. Jesse has a fantastic sounding 5-string Fender bass that he uses as the driving force behind Lotus's sound. Jesse takes every nuance of his sound very seriously. In fact, when visiting him at soundcheck, he had his bass plugged into to his stage rig and a screwdriver in hand trying to find the loose screw in his stack that was buzzing ever so slightly. After he removed the grates covering his speakers, we shifted our attention to his pedal board where we injected the Soundblox Bass Envelope Filter and the Soundblox Pro Multiwave Bass Distortion.
The Multiwave was an especially great fit for Jesse's board, which was equipped with an expression pedal ready to take advantage of the excellent morphing features of the Pro unit. After some tinkering with the settings, Jesse arrived at a great distortion swell sound moving from the singleband distortion settings with a mid-level drive to a multiband octave sound with high drive. We gave him the pedal to keep experimenting with so be sure to look and listen for the Multiwave Distortion at your next Lotus show!
Also, it's worth checking outh Lotus's great Through The Mirror web video series on their website featuring live performances and interviews that tell the bands story from the inside out. You can watch the first episode here.
