Chickenfoot - the Return of Riff Rock?

I have to tell you that I was quite interested when I first read about the formation of the band Chickenfoot - made up of Joe Satriani, Sammy Hagar, Chad Smith and Michael Anthony.
The ingredients seem interesting - virtuoso Satriani, Chad from the Chili Peppers, and half of the Hagar Van Halen period.
Not sure if I would be a fan of the music, I was just glad that a band like this would exist in this day and age. One reason is that perhaps it brings me back to my youth, listening to Sammy when he sand for Montrose in the 1970's.
And after first listen, they play the exact type of music that you would expect - riff heavy, crunchy hard rock, with some nice unexpected twists thrown in. I was hoping that all the instrumental spiciness for which Satch in known would not be eliminated for pmass popularity's sake, and I sure am glad that it isn't. Zeppelin never took the artistic touches out of their music, and that's a big reason their music has endured.
My next hope is that this band continues to play, take chances, and record.
Here's a nice story and video clip of Satch's touring rig.
What are your thoughts on Chickenfoot?
On a larger note, what could this mean for guitarists? Will Joe's technical yet bluesy rock n' roll histronics make a larger-than-life comback into the mainstream? Or was that just for the 1980's?
