Artist / Heroes,

Another Musikmesse in the bank!

Thursday, April 28, 2011

Another year at Musikmesse in the bank!  This year we came loaded up with a secret weapon in the form of one Quintin Berry, upside down groove-master bass player extraordinaire.

It’s hard not to stop when you see a guy like Q ripping it apart on the bass as is.  Throw in the strange technique and, ahem, some pretty swanky effects pedal sounds and you have a recipe for jaw-dropped Germans.  By the end of the weekend, we got our system down for drawing a crowd to our small corner of the decadent Warwick booth.  It was simple really…let Q do his thing.  Here's a quick look at are nice set up in the Warwick booth:

Many industry vets may know Q for his annual show stopping performances in the NAMM Hilton lobby with his swamp rock Alabama band, The Ugli Stick.  Here’s a video for reference of what the dude can do:

With semi-hourly performances, we were able to get some signature Source Audio sounds out in between the ruckus from the Warwick main stage that filled the entire hall with sound.  Don’t get me wrong though.  It was great ruckus, beautiful ruckus at times and funky ruckus at others.  Q was able to draw the crowds from the main stage straight over to us in an instant with performances like this:

It must be mentioned that we managed to squeeze Source Audio into the ruckus of the main stage.  Avid Source Audio enthusiast Blackbyrd McKnight was absolutely bringing the thunder on the brand new Soundblox Guitar Envelope Filter in his performance with Bootsy Collins, TM Stevens and Norwood Fisher.  Check out some quick footage of that goodness:

We had a few guests stop by the booth the weekend to have some duets with Quintin.  Any of you who visited us at NAMM will remember Kevin Walker, who lends his classy funky bass stylings to the likes of Prince and Justin Timberlake when they are on tour.

We also had a ripping blues number with Q supporting the blistering speed and soul of English bluesman, Paul Rose.  Have a look at some of what Paul can do in these covers of ‘Little Wing’ and ‘Eleanor Rigby’.

The precocious Q also jumped in on a jam featuring young gun Hadrien Feraud.  Hadrien did a great double take when he saw Quintin's hands creeping up form underneath the bass.  He outright laughed when he heard how hard Quintin can groove!  No video unfortunately, but here's a pic of the action:

We had a great sit down with Source Audio artist Steve Bailey, who added a Soundblox Pro Classic Distortion to his collection.  After an extended demo session with Norwood Fisher, who was entranced by the Soundblox Flanger, it became pretty clear that a demo video for a ‘new’ bass pedal is be on its way!

Perhaps one of the greatest highlights and a perfect way to close out this blog is to post our picture with the legendary Leland Sklar, who has played on almost literally every record ever made.  Take us out Lee!
